Past Projects 2
First Choice Remodeling
The project pictured below was a wall repair to a commercial building in
North Chicago, Illinois done in August of 2007. The wall had been part of
an addition to the original building and another addition that was
attached to the back of the building was demolished to reveal what you
see in the first few photos. We had to reconstruct half of the wall due to
structural damage and then finish off the back of the building and install
2 exit doors.
The above 3 photos show the damage to the wall. On the right the lintel iron
supporting the old doorway had been cut and the old studs had rotted away at
the bottom. A 6" x 6" post was used to shore up the area to temporarily keep it
from collapsing. The base of the wall also had been damaged and needed
some concrete added to the footing below the archway prior to repair. When the
other building was demolished the concrete block wall on the right was cut to
form a wing wall to help with structural integrity. Image #'s 1, 2, & 3

The old brick near and to the right of the archway was removed up to the vertical left end of the arched opening
and studded in with provision for the 2nd exit/entry door. The studded portion was then sheated with OSB
sheathing and the old brickwork was sheated with polystyrene insulated panels and then the outer wall was
covered in vinyl siding. The wing wall was tuckpointed and the roof line finished off to accept the installation of a
fascia board and gutter with down spouts. Image #'s 4, 5, & 6.
